As a Human Right
When you or someone you love is faced with a medical emergency or health crisis, it feels like a five alarm fire for many. There are still places in the world where medical care and/or its availability to those who need it is motivated by profit rather than quality patient care. We believe quality healthcare should be considered a human right. No one should be denied medical treatment for lack of money or status. Your bank balance or title should not be the deciding factor as to whether you live or die. And no one should have to fear bankruptcy or becoming homeless, simply because they got sick or injured! Here we share stories from around the world of courageous and compassionate healthcare professionals, patients, advocates, and activists, as well as success stories of healthcare systems that not only work for the patient, but for the hospitals, and healthcare professionals who serve! It is possible to shift from a profit based system to a model that asserts that quality medical care and availabilty should be regarded as a human right for every man, woman, and child on this planet! Collectively, we just have to agree that it’s worth investing in, to make it happen! Some countries are already there, and we thank you! But for those who are still placing profits above quality patient care as a human right, collectively, we must begin to put love and care for one another over greed and fear and amplify the light surrounding this health care crisis. On behalf of the many around the world, including in the United States, who for lack of financial means or status are being denied the treatment they deserve, when we have an opprtunity to speak out or to vote, we must support candiidates and initiatives that promote a universal healthcare system, that puts patient care above profits, yet still gives hospitals and health care professionals who serve sufficient resources to thrive. Together we rise!
